What is a KG1 child expected to know in an English exam?

In most schools: the letters A to H, or up to M, by name and sound; matching uppercase to lowercase; tracing letters; 20 to 30 words with pictures; the basic colors; and numbers 1 to 5 or 10.

How do I use the sample exam at home?

Print both pages and sit with your child for 15 minutes. Read the instructions aloud to them. For “the letter you hear”, say each letter clearly. Don’t help with the answers, and check them together at the end.

What Should a KG1 Child Know in English?

Skill	Usually expected
Letters	At least A to H (some schools go to M): each letter’s name, sound, and uppercase and lowercase forms.
Words	20 to 30 words with pictures: animals, fruit, colors, classroom objects.
Colors	red, blue, yellow and green, and coloring as asked.
Numbers	Counting from 1 to 5 (or 10) and writing the number.
Writing	Tracing letters over dots; children aren’t expected to write on their own.
Speaking	Answering What’s your name? and How are you?, and naming a picture the teacher points to.

How to Use the Exam at Home

Print both pages, and have coloring pencils ready for the last question.
Read each instruction aloud, then let your child work alone. Don’t point to the answer.
For “the letter you hear”, say A… C… E… B clearly, once for each row.
At the end, check it together. For every mistake, open the letter’s page or the word’s lesson and listen to the sound.
Fewer than 12 marks? That’s fine: spend two weeks on letter-learning games, then try again.
